Essentially, they are sleeves for a screw that bite into a wall\u2014creating an anchoring point that supports a mounted item. Some are self-drilling while others require a pre-drilled hole before securing. Wall plugs are used:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When mounting to a stud isn\u2019t possible;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the surface you are mounting on is hollow (doors, plasterboard, ceilings) or very thick (concrete, brick);&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the item you are mounting is light enough to be supported by a wall plug alone.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many different types of wall plugs, so the type you choose for your task depends on load weight, wall type and how it can be installed or removed. Learn from Taskers all about the different types of wall plugs and when to use each type.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Concrete wall plug&nbsp;<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ideal for attaching dense materials together, like bathtub attachments, countertops, and cement.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If being used for appliances, be sure to look for corrosion-resistant fasteners.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Expansion wall plug<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also known as a wedge anchor.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can be used for masonry, concrete, brick, and other hard surface materials.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide a strong holding power by expanding once they are installed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Cavity wall plug<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Able to take on a fair amount of weight (roughly 22.5 kg).<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can be used across various wall and load types.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Plasterboard wall plug<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can hold a medium amount of weight and are relatively simple to install.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Come in both plastic or metal form &#8211; metal can be reused for other jobs, plastic cannot.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These types of wall plugs have threads that help them hold securely into the surface they are gripping.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Heavy duty wall plug<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ideal for any wall type with cavity behind it\u2014for example, plasterboard over studs or lath and plaster.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Able to hold a fair amount of weight\u2014making them ideal for heavier-duty mounting tasks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-coblocks-dynamic-separator is-style-line\" style=\"height:50px\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve only just grazed the surface of the wall plug world.
