Taskrabbit Opens the Allen Arms to Celebrate Britain’s Most Forgotten Household Item

the Allen Arms

For one night only, Taskrabbit is turning the nation’s forgotten Allen keys into the only accepted currency at the bar: Wednesday 29th July starting at 5pm at The Horse & Groom, Shoreditch, London.

London, July 2026: On Wednesday 29th July, Taskrabbit is transforming local Shoreditch pub, The Horse & Groom, into The Allen Arms – the world’s first pub where the humble Allen key becomes the only accepted currency at the bar. Instead of reaching for your wallet, consumers are invited to rummage through their kitchen drawers and toolboxes in search of the leftover Allen keys that have been quietly multiplying. All they need to do is bring one along and exchange it for a complimentary pint at the bar.

Few household items are as universally recognisable, or as universally abandoned, as the Allen key, so from 5pm, one of Shoreditch’s most loved pubs will be given a DIY-inspired makeover, complete with classic pub games reimagined for the occasion. Guests can challenge friends to see who can do the best beer mat flip, all while enjoying a pint bought with the humble Allen key.

The takeover celebrates the item that almost everyone has tucked away in a kitchen drawer and finally puts it to good use, while reminding us that flatpack furniture doesn’t have to mean evenings spent reading instruction manuals or searching for missing screws. Instead, Taskrabbit is encouraging people to leave the assembly to a skilled Tasker and get back to doing what they love.

Annette Claisse, GM, Europe at Taskrabbit said, “Almost everyone has an Allen key tucked away somewhere at home. They’re one of those things we never throw away, but rarely know what to do with either. Whether you love building flatpack furniture or you’d prefer never to pick up another Allen key again, this is about celebrating one of the most recognisable symbols of DIY, and encouraging people to spend time together, rather than spending hours trying to work out which screw matches piece B.”

The Allen Arms is free to attend and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. Guests simply need to bring along an Allen key to exchange for a complimentary pint*. Every Allen key handed over at The Allen Arms will be responsibly recycled.
