Taskrabbit Reveals Biggest TV-Inspired Interior Trends, From Disco Décor to Over-the-Top Opulence

  • Over half (51%) of Brits say they are always on the lookout for interior design inspo when they’re watching TV

  • Brits are taking interior inspo from the likes of Barbie Movie, Daisy Jones and the Six, White Lotus, and Emily in Paris

  • Friends revealed as still being Brit’s biggest interior influence

With nearly a third of Brits saying they watch over 15 hours of TV or films a week, it’s no wonder when it comes to sprucing up our homes, we find ourselves taking inspiration from the homes we see on our screens.

New data from Taskrabbit found that nearly half (47%) of Brits say they get their interior design inspiration from the TV or films they watch, with 51% saying they actively seek out inspiration from the content they consume. Despite first airing 28 years ago, a third (32%) of Brits still say that Friends has most inspired their design choices, closely followed by Emily in Paris (24%) and Sex and the City (24%) showing that some homes really do never go out of style.

But it’s not just the classic shows which Brits are turning to for their next home look. Inspired by the recent smash hit show, Daisy Jones and the Six, the 70s are making a comeback, with Taskers seeing a 300% increase in requests for help with neon lighting. Macrame searches have doubled.

The data also showed that the highly anticipated Barbie movie is already making its mark, spiking a 400% increase in dollhouse searches – that’s a lot of people preparing to welcome the houseguest of the summer!

Never ones to be bleak about the weather, Brits are anticipating some Sicilian heat this summer, and they’re getting poolside ready alongside the White Lotus guests. With a 50% increase in bookings asking for help with their pools, and a 100% increase in searches for canopies, now all they need is the sun.

Taskrabbit found fans of popular British TV hits Bridgerton and The Crown are incorporating opulent interiors into their homes in 2023. The data showed an 89% spike in searches for 'gold' in the UK and a 45% increase in requests for chandeliers, while a desire for more carpets is also increasing with a 10% uptick of related searches.

Finally, British homes are beginning to replicate the luxurious and chic interiors of the French inspired by Emily in Paris, with details such as cornicing searches increasing by 66%, and wall panelling seeing a 30% increase, adding a touch of Parisian elegance and refinement
